Tina V
Invited to perform at Canadian Music Week in Toronto this year from 6th to 10th May, and with "Cut The Tent", her first studio album due for release in June, things are just beginning happen for Tina V, described by the BBC as "sensational". Tina V is prolific and in-demand. Front girl and founder of rock band This Wicked Tongue, she got the bug for performing 4 years ago and hasn't looked back. She formed the band after being asked to play at a regional festival - the band followed and took over. On the verge of huge things with the band, she finds herself collaborating with musicians local, national and, via the internet, international. Tina is compared variously with singers as diverse and different as Cristina Scabbia, Gwen Stefani and Kate Bush on account of her ability to mix beautiful velvet with scalding volcano but she's a class songwriter too. Christina Maynard aka Tina V has had extensive play on BBC radio, and took part in the BBC's "Musicians' Masterclass" in 2012. The same year, her band opened the main stage at the award winning Green Man Festival in South Wales. Tina's invitation to Canadian Music Week comes at a time when she is recording her first studio album, "Cut The Tent". The album will be funded by a Pledge funding campaign, due for launch 7th March. Please come back soon or visit her website www.tinaveronica.com for details of how you can help. Of the songs here, Judgement is a collaboration with her cousin Andrew Cullen whereas the rest are all Tina's compositions. Golden is easily the most recent, recorded in October 2013. It is the first of 12 songs which Tina plans to release in 2014, as an album "Cut The Tent", and shows Tina's popper side. To hear Tina in a rock setting, please make your way over to her band's page, www.reverbnation.com/thiswickedtongue - either way you're in for a treat! The other songs were all recorded at home early in 2011 and represent Tina's first ever ventures into recording. Tina has gigged her solo material as a side project with the other members of This Wicked Tongue as her backing band, with a couple of notable additions namely keys and a second guitar. The extra musicians allowed Tina to sing and command the stage even more than she does when playing. The most recent such gig was in November 2013 at London's Brixton Jamm in support of Finlay Quaye. The response was absolutely amazing - it has encouraged her and the band to book more gigs, fitting in with This Wicked Tongue's schedule, and was the catalyst for uploading Golden here sooner than planned. Being the (penniless) full time musicians they are, they hardly know where to stop, and they also team up from time to time as a covers band playing many of the songs you'll find on Tina's youtube channel. But that's another story. We've put up a selection of videos featuring Tina both solo and in her band. Listen out for the velvet and the volcano.
