Big Light

In the summer of 2007, a rock ‘n’ roll band called Big Light was born in the coastal city of San Francisco. Founded by New England natives Fred Torphy and Bradly Bifulco, this frontman and drummer team served as the core for what has become a rock-solid quintet, rounded out by Steve Adams (bass, vox), Jeremy Korpas (guitar), and Jeff Coleman (keys, synths). Making a name for themselves as a band’s band while counting some of the Bay Area’s most revered musicians among their biggest fans, Big Light has infiltrated the California music scene over the last four years. They have played to a growing group of supporters at marquee festivals (Outside Lands, Noise Pop, High Sierra, Wanderlust) as well as at SF’s finest venues (The Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, The Independent). Fans have come to expect a loud, brutally honest live show, and the band has mastered reading a room and delivering a set of music that eerily parallels the mood of an audience on any given night. The music itself is an amalgamation of space-rock, low-fi garage pop and traditional rock ‘n’ roll, with a sharp focus on songwriting and lyricism. Big Light’s rock realism doesn’t get hung-up on trends or hype and leaves a so-called “indie rock” attitude to those who choose to cater to today’s ADD-stricken, insular blogosphere. The fellas in Big Light could give a flying f**k about pinning one’s hopes and dreams on “success” in a twisted industry. Instead, they spend their time writing and creating original music. On this mysterious path forward, Big Light will continue to do what they do best—blow out your ears, slap you on the back, and steal your heart. For those who noticed the band’s 2010′s garage rock masterpiece, Animals In Bloom, they are eager for what’s to come with the untitled, soon-to-be released follow-up LP. It’s an oasis of fuzz and reverb, courtesy of your own private, perfectly flawed rock ‘n’ roll band. Do with it what you will.
