I did “Black Paris Blues” about a magical time in France when
African American artists found a refuge against the discrimination
in America. People like Josephine Baker, Richard Wright and Bricktop, the nightclub owner, found a home.

This was “The Jazz Age” and France became a place where African
American men and women could find creative freedom.
Even though that time is long gone for African Americans,
if you ask them today where they'd love to go visit, their
first choice is always Paris, France. That is because their first impressions of African Americans were through the great black artists who went there.

Even today we are thought of favorably in France…and that's a wonderful thing.
