Stomp off Let's Go
by Scott Yanow It would have been intriguing to hear bop altoist and tenor-saxophonist Sonny Stitt play the title cut (an obscurity from the 1920s whose use as the album's name is actually irrelevant) but instead he performs the "Theme from Black Orpheus," "Duke's Place," "Perdido" and "Little Suede Shoes." Actually the most interesting aspect to this date (which also utilizes Frank Owens on keyboards, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, Richard Davis on electric bass, drummer Louie Bellson and percussionist Leopoldo Fleming) is that the two high-note trumpeters Jon Faddis and Lew Soloff are also in the frontline and have a fair amount of solo space. Otherwise this is an average although enjoyable Sonny Stitt bop date.
