Awakening
Ardyth Robinson and Jennifer Wyatt met many years ago at a good old fashioned Nova Scotia kitchen party. At that time they both played the guitar, and Jennifer played a bit of piano, but they both sang. They had a great time singing together, but life took them to different parts of the world. When they got together again a couple of years later, Ardyth had been introduced to the harp while she was in New Zealand, and Jennifer fell immediately in love with the instrument. They both had young families, and times were tough, but Jennifer's husband, Sean decided to build a harp for her. From the moment she had her hands on the harp, songs began to come together- all the musical influences from classical to jazz to rock and roll found their way into the music, and with the gentle additions of Ardyth's harp and voice along with whistles and flute, they created the sound that has become uniquely "Ardyth & Jennifer". Once Ardyth & Jennifer began to play for public performances, they decided to make a cassette as a Christmas present for friends and family. They saved up enough money to pay for one day in the studio, got up their courage, and went in to record. As news travelled about their recording, many people asked if they could purchase a copy, so they decided to make a few extras to help cover the costs. They sold their first run of this recording out in a matter of weeks, and the dream of a professional recording was born. Awakening is the first exciting result. Funded in part by FACTOR, the entire process was an incredible journey of discovery, and the original songs that are on this CD are still requested regularly. Now into it's fourth pressing, Awakening is still as much in demand today as it was in 1998 when they released it. Since that first recording, Ardyth & Jennifer have never looked back. Travelling the roads together they feel as though they are still on an amazing journey- it leads them to some of the premier folk festivals and stages throughout the Maritimes and into the New England States, and it leads them into the hearts of tiny communities. Everywhere, they are received with warmth, and open hearts. They look at each other on a daily basis and can't believe how fortunate they are to be able to sustain a life on the road through their music. So to all who listen, and all who have continued to buy our CDs and come to our concerts, "Thank you for supporting our habit!"
