The Spaces In Between
"Ambitious, visionary and ultimately gorgeous. Charlie North is the Gods' nectar of ambient music." Nick Luscombe, Flo- Motion, London's 104.9 Xfm "Charlie is widescreen musical genius." Gordon Loncaster, Virgin Radio ------------------------ ***ABOUT THE SONGS*** EARLY MORNING CALL This opening track aims to capture the feeling of an unknown night life in an unfamiliar city. It is a drifting musical structure of twisted and treated instruments. Location: Singapore Hotel Room. FAITH This was the first track to be completed. Rooted in world music it will be familiar ground for fans of the first album. Location: Nevada Desert. PATIENT A sombre track inspired by time spent in hospital. It is a mediation on the fragility of life, our illusion of self control, and the apt double meaning of the word Patient. Location: Hospital Recovery Room. IF:WHEN:THEN This track uses a combination of live performance and computer generated arrangements. The title refers to way the computer is asked to 'think'. 'IF' this happens, or 'WHEN' that happens, 'THEN' do this... Location: Canadian Log Cabin. WAIT & SEE Wait & See is based on the idea of having the computer 'generate' arrangements around live musical performance. This particular live 'jam' between artist and computer hits the perfect 'honey spot' of interactivity. Location: Dreaming. DEVOTION This was the last track to be written for the album. It is a love song to my fiancee. Location: Home A QUIET LIFE If there is 'a dead of night' then this track sits in the middle. Minimal, reflective and simple, A Quiet Life is the moment you release you've woken up, the twilight between sleeping and waking. Location: Tokyo Metro. THE SPACES IN BETWEEN I wrote this track imagining a fictional couple in a transatlantic relationship between London and New York. It is a hopeful track that explores the emotions and tensions that would need to be bridged, both physically and mentally. Location: Plane flight, Atlantic ocean. ---------------------------- www.charlienorth.co.uk
